Bryce Dallas Howard’s second child is a girl, hopefully to inherit her mother’s beautiful mane of red hair.
The Eclipse and The Help star was delivered of a baby on Thursday and the happy news was brought to the world by her father Ron Howard, film director and producer. His Twitter message posted on Saturday evening informed that the girl born on January 19 was named Beatrice Jean Howard-Gabel. She weighed 8lbs 6oz and is, at her grandpa’s estimation, “spectacular.”
The 57-year-old director added that Beatrice’s father and brother “are beaming ear to ear” and thanked everybody who had sent congratulations via Twitter.
Howard, 30, has been married to actor Seth Gabel since June 2006. Their first child, son Theodore Norman, known as Theo, will turn 5 in February.
Theo’s birth proved to be something of an ordeal for the actress. As she revealed three years later on Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP blog, it had brought on postpartum depression.
She had problems with breast-feeding, Howard’s 2010 confession ran; she had an acute feeling of having failed as an actress, housewife and even as a dog owner. At the advice of family and friends, the actress underwent therapy and homeopathic treatment which helped her overcome the depression.
The lesson that she learned, shared Howard, was that one should “never be afraid to ask for help,” as well as a feeling of profound gratitude for the support she received.
Another factor instrumental in her recovery was Brooke Shield’s book Down Came the Rain that proved an eye-opener.
