Could Randy Moss find work with Miami Dolphins?

The very last time we saw Randy Moss on a football field in South Florida Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis had the future Hall of Famer in a sleeper hold.

Davis, who covered Moss twice in one season because of his trade from the New England Patriots to Minnesota, then release, which put him into the arms of the Tennessee Titans, held the seven-time Pro Bowler to one catch (for 26 yards) in TW
Moss is now 35 and plans to put together a comeback crusade. Problem is he retired last season because there wasn’t an NFL team that wanted him after he wore out his welcome in New England, then Minnesota (again), and then in Tennessee.

The Dolphins actually had an opportunity to claim him in 2010 but didn’t submit a waiver claim (instead they submitted one on Shawn Merriman).
Hard to imagine there will be a team interested now, especially when you consider the baggage that comes with Moss, even at a reduced price.

However, the Dolphins might be in the market for an experienced, and cheap receiver, especially one with a chip on his shoulder IF the team lands Peyton Manning.
Signing Manning, who turns 36 in 2012, means the Dolphins are taking an all-in approach, trying to make a mad dash at a Super Bowl.

IF that’s the case, it is hard to imagine bringing someone like Moss, or even Terrell Owens to training camp, where they’d compete with Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore for a roster spot, could hurt.
If Moss doesn’t have it anymore, and can no longer run a 9-route like a gazelle, stretching the field, then he gets dumped, released before the season starts. No harm, no foul.
But of course, this scenario only becomes relevant if the Dolphins are taking an all-in approach in 2012.
I’m not saying signing Moss makes sense, or that the Dolphins need another receiver. All I’m pointing out is that General Manager Jeff Ireland likes to examine rocks, and a humbled, healthy and motivated Randy Moss could be a pretty decent find.
O GAMES.

It was clear then that Moss, who has scored 153 touchdowns and is 142 yards away from 15,000 for his career, was done as a dominant NFL player.
And that was back in 2010.
