SIX of St.Kitts Nevis athletes qualify for WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS!

TIANDRA PONTEEN became the sixth athlete to qualify when she won the 400 m in 53.10 sec on Feb. 2012 at the Texas A&M Invitational which took place at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium - College Station, Texas!

Tiandra’s 400m winning time of 53.10 seconds, is a new season best and a new Olympic Development Record. She won her heat convincingly (over an entire second).

The previous Olympic Development Record was set by her on the 28th January 2012 in a time of 53.45 seconds.

MARECIA PEMBERTON made her 2012 indoor debut at the Spire Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Invite in Ohio. She won her heat in 7.49 seconds and later won her final in 7.48 seconds having recovered from a poor start in the final. Marecia is currently the national record holder in this event.

SKNAA also reports that TAMEKA WILLIAMS has entered her name in the record books for the 2nd time by eclipsing Marecia Pemberton’s 11 month national record in the women’s 60m meter at the IHM Karlsruhe International Hallenleichtathletik Meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Tameka finished 3rd in the 60m at the BW Bank Meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany. Her time of 7.24 IS A NEW NATIONAL INDOOR RECORD.

She finished behind Ivet Lalova of Bulgaria (7.16) and Aleen Bailey of Jamaica (7.18); both of whom recorded a lifetime best along with Tameka. It’s also important to note that Tameka is currently the National Junior Record Holder in the women’s 100m dash (11.44 seconds set in 2008).

Meanwhile, Kim Collins sped to a season’s best time of 6.61 seconds in the 60 m Indoors, winning his preliminary race at the PSD Bank Meeting in Dusseldorf, Germany. But again due to injury he fell short in the finals and placed 8th in a time of 6.91 secs.

Along with the three females named above, KIM COLLINS, ANTOINE ADAMS and BRIJESH LAWRENCE are all qualifiers for World Indoor Championships.

In their various meets, our athletes are delivering personal bests, breaking records and qualifying for more performances on the world stage.

We thank the SKNAA for bringing us these reports which are sometimes difficult to access and join with them in sending to our athletes our ‘Valentine love’ and congratulations on their successes.
